About Reaching Out
Reaching Out is the philanthropic endeavor of the employees of Mays Concrete, Inc., funded through voluntary payroll deduction. We seek to help in three distinct ways: Employee families; our neighbors in Grand Junction and surrounding communities, and the needy in third world countries.
The first way of helping is provision of a scholarship for a child of a Mays Concrete employee to be used at Mesa State College in Grand Junction Colorado. With matching funds from the company and the cooperation of the Mesa State College Foundation, funds collected help a student towards earning a college degree.
Our second way of giving helps our neighbors by providing toys, clothing and food, which are wrapped and delivered by the employees, spouses and children of Mays Concrete, Inc. during the Christmas season. We have supported the Grand Valley Chapter of the Blue Star Mothers, a national organization that provides support for active duty service personnel, promotes patriotism, and assists Veterans. This local chapter creates and ships care packages to Colorado Soldiers serving overseas.
The third way of helping supports international programs that reach the needy in third-world countries. We have supported the ONE Campaign, an orgainzation to end extreme global poverty, hunger and fight diseases such as AIDS, and The Rotary Foundation's POLIO PLUS Program, to eliminate polio by reaching every child with the polio vaccine.
